Top 5 things to do in Pag, Croatia (2025 Guide)

Pag may be famous for its salt and lace, but there’s a lot more hiding in this small Mediterranean town. Whether you’re here for a day or staying longer, these five experiences are the kind you’ll remember — real, local, and worth your time.

1. Try the Iconic Pag Cheese (Paški Sir)

There’s cheese — and then there’s Paški sir. Made from the milk of local sheep that graze on wild island herbs and sea salt-covered grass, this hard, salty cheese has won awards all over the world. It’s sharp, rich, and nothing like what you’ll find in supermarkets.

Where: Most konobas serve it as a starter, but if you want the real experience, visit the Gligora cheese factory or look for small, family-run producers across the island. Those are the real gems.

2. See the world famous Pag lace (Paška čipka)

Recognized by UNESCO, Pag lace is handmade with a needle, stitch by stitch, the same way it’s been done for centuries — a tradition passed from mother to daughter for generations. You’ll find it in shop windows, but for the real deal, visit the gallery of Pag lace in the duke’s palace.

Don’t miss: Walk down Bartul Kašić Street and you might catch a local woman working on lace right there, in the open.

3. Walk the medieval city centre

Pag’s street grid is not random — it was planned in the 15th century, making it one of Croatia’s earliest examples of Renaissance urbanism. Walk through narrow stone alleys, past noble houses, secret courtyards, and centuries-old churches.

Tip: Use CityUnlock self-guided tour to do so – you can choose from 60, 90, 120 or 180 minute cultural and historical tour. It's fully digital and have plenty of photos, videos, audio guide and the kind of weird facts you won’t find on TripAdvisor. Check self-guided tour offer here → www.city-unlock.com

4. Drink a Coffee on the Promenade (Riva)

Slow down, catch afternoon “Fjaka”. Chat with locals. Pag’s riva isn’t about fancy beach clubs — it’s about real Mediterranean life. Grab a coffee (or a Karlovačko beer) and enjoy the breeze.

Local pick: café bar Riva – where locals go — no frills, just good views.

5. Play a real-world Escape game by CityUnlock

Explore Pag’s streets with a twist: follow clues, solve riddles, and unlock secrets hidden in plain sight. This self-guided escape game is part local history, part immersive challenge — and it’s played outside, whenever you want.

How it works: You get a digital map, clues, and videos. All you need is your phone… and your brain.
